Turning Hardship Into Hope

LEAVEN works through volunteers to assist people in crisis who have basic needs that cannot be met elsewhere. It should not be a surprise to anyone that there is continuing growth in the number of less fortunate families in the Fox Valley area served by LEAVEN. We see them every day in our offices. Often they have nowhere else to go and we are their last hope.

While it is not within our means to provide for all of their needs, we can and do give emergency help with the essentials such as food, clothing, and shelter. In the recent past, we have experienced a huge increase in the number of requests we receive for housing and utility assistance. The amount spent to meet those needs has also greatly increased. LEAVEN stands ready to help with emergency care to anyone in the community whose need can be determined.

Those who work to make it possible—and most of them are volunteers who work without pay—are proud that more than 91 percent of all contribution money received does go to needy clients. And that is a percentage not many support agencies can claim. Our expenses remain small because of dedicated volunteers who interview clients and maintain our records. Financial support is received with the knowledge that we are expected to provide assistance wisely and appropriately.
