We are helping so many families who face real emergencies or tragedies that they cannot deal with alone. Thanks to the generous gift of self from you and others in our community, LEAVEN can continue to make a real difference in the lives of people in need. To tour the LEAVEN facility and discuss any of the below volunteer positions, please contact Mary Grace, Volunteer Coordinator at 738-9635. The following positions are available:
Receptionist: These volunteers greet clients, answer phones, and make appointments for clients. Should enjoy working with the public and have good telephone skills.
Interviewer: These volunteers conduct interviews & assist with the application process, working one-on-one with LEAVEN clients.
Case Worker: These volunteers investigate requests for assistance by contacting other community resources, and decide how to best assist the client.
Statistician: This volunteer keeps statistical records about LEAVEN clients. This information is used for various necessary reports and helps LEAVEN continually assess the help we provide and to improve our help to clients. Good organization and mathematical skills are essential.
Caller: Callers work with the Faith Community Development Committee to encourage area churches to join the LEAVEN network. They are given names of churches to contact once a year (whether or not they are members) to keep in touch. Accurate records are kept of the call and a copy is submitted to the secretary who informs the executive director if other action is required. Callers should have good telephone skills, a commitment to LEAVEN and be able to talk "church talk" to the churches. Assignments of churches are made based on the caller’s comfort level with a particular faith stance.
Building and Grounds Maintenance: These volunteers assist in the general upkeep and maintenance of the LEAVEN property by doing yard work, mowing grass, routine inside maintenance or light office cleaning. Each volunteer in this area has the opportunity to do the tasks that match his or her skills and area of interest. Some of the tasks are seasonal and some are ongoing.
